Gabriele Onnis is a product designer from Cagliari. His work stems from the combination of research, experimentation, and storytelling: for him, every object must have a soul as well as a function, becoming a bridge between man, matter, and territory.
His research moves between memory and gesture, in an attempt to transform the legacy of artisan knowledge into a contemporary language. The materials—ceramic, cork, wool, wood—are never neutral, but alive, bearers of stories and imperfections that become an integral part of the project. Working closely with local artisans, Onnis reinterprets tools and traditions, giving shape to “small domestic architectures” where function meets memory through essential and poetic lines.
His collections Istorias (with Cocca, Arco, and Asso) and Segni were exhibited at the MURATS — Museo Unico Regionale dell'Arte Tessile Sarda (Unique Regional Museum of Sardinian Textile Art) in the collective exhibition.
“Designers, Act II.” The Phos project, which began as a diploma thesis, was selected
by the ADI Design Museum for the traveling exhibition “Italy: A New Collective Landscape” (Milan, Hong Kong, Shanghai) and published in international magazines such as Core77 and WeVux.
Today, her career is focused on the creation of cultural and experimental projects that interact with the territory, exploring new forms and languages capable of combining tradition, technology, and storytelling.
